How many water bottles make a gallon?
A standard 16.9 oz (500 mL) bottle is 7.57 bottles per gallon, so about 7 1/2 bottles. With 8 oz glasses it is exactly 16 glasses; with 20 oz bottles, 6.4 bottles; with 32 oz bottles, exactly 4.
Fluid ounces vs ounces of weight
Fluid ounces measure volume. A gallon of water weighs about 8.34 lb (roughly 133 oz by weight), so for water the two numbers are close but not equal, and for milk, oil or honey they differ more. When a recipe or label says “oz” for a liquid, it almost always means fluid ounces.
UK gallons
An imperial (UK) gallon is 160 imperial fluid ounces, about 4.546 liters, or roughly 153.7 US fluid ounces. If a British fuel or brewing figure seems 20% bigger, that is why.
Definitions: NIST Handbook 44, Appendix C (US customary liquid volume). US units; UK imperial pints, quarts and gallons are about 20% larger.
