Cups to ounces

Quick answer: One US cup equals 8 US fluid ounces, so fluid ounces = cups × 8. Example: 2 cups = 16 fl oz, and 3/4 cup = 6 fl oz. Fluid ounces measure volume; for dry ingredients by weight, 1 cup of all-purpose flour is about 4.25 oz (120 g), so use the ingredient converter instead.

Fluid ounces vs weight ounces

One US cup is 8 US fluid ounces of volume. Weight is different: a cup of water weighs about 8.3 oz, but a cup of all-purpose flour weighs about 4.25 oz (120 g) and a cup of granulated sugar about 7.1 oz (200 g). If a recipe lists ounces for a dry ingredient, it almost always means weight.

UK and US fluid ounces

A US fluid ounce is 29.57 mL and a UK fluid ounce is 28.41 mL, and a UK pint is 20 UK fluid ounces versus 16 US fluid ounces, so pints differ more than ounces.
